Hōhepa School is a
special character school in Hawke’s Bay, grounded in the principles of
manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and whakamana. We provide holistic education for
ākonga with intellectual disabilities, guided by Te Whāriki and inspired by
Steiner education.

connected across residential homes, social enterprises, day
activities, and biodynamic farming. From artisan workshops and
creative studios to cheese-making and gardening, Hōhepa is a place where people

We’re looking for a
Principal who is a connector, a leader, and a champion for inclusive education.
You’ll bring:
- Leadership experience in special education, psychology, or corrections education
- Current teaching registration with the Teachers Council
- A strong understanding of Te Whāriki, NZ curriculum and inclusive learning approaches
- Understanding of MOE, Disability standards, ORS funding
- Awareness of or openness to Steiner pedagogy
- Confidence in advocating for Hōhepa across networks and stakeholders
- Skill in conflict resolution and navigating tough conversations
- A hands-on approach — you’re ready to step into the classroom when needed
- A
leadership style grounded in integrity, empathy, and courage
